1 Peter 4:19
4:19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
The Spirit Works With The Contrite Ones-
It means much to commit the keeping of the soul to God. It means that we are to live and walk by faith, not trusting in or glorifying self, but looking to Jesus our Advocate, as the Author and Finisher of our faith. The Holy Spirit will do its work upon the heart that is contrite, but never can He work upon a self-important, self-righteous soul. In his own wisdom such a one would mend himself. He interposes between his soul and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will work if self will not interpose. MS 148, 1897 par. 12
Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
Our Father, which art in heaven,
We come faithfully into Your presence in thanksgiving, praise, and prayer. We thank You for giving us this day, and every day You give us together with You. We thank You for giving us Your breath of life. We thank You for watching over us and protecting us and keeping us safe. We thank You for providing for all our needs in abundance. We thank You for the Holy Spirit and Your Word to live by. We pray for the continual outpouring of the Holy Spirit on our families and on each of us individually. We pray You lead and guide us and keep us on a safe path. We commit the keeping of our souls to You our faithful Creator. We pray for the Spirit to work with us that we are able to live and walk by faith, not trusting in our own strength, but looking to Jesus our Advocate, as the Originator, Author and Finisher of our faith. We pray for wisdom to not interfere as You do a work upon our hearts. You have called us, knocked on the door of our hearts, and we commit our spirit into Your hand. You have redeemed us and we come to You with contrite hearts. We are sorry we have sinned against You and confess and repent of our sins. We pray for forgiveness and healing of our hearts, minds, souls, and bodies. We pray for Your continual guidance into all truth, Your truth, and not what man professes as truth. We pray for You to show us things to come. We pray that You grant us our petitions according to the riches of Your glory, to be strengthened with might by Your Spirit in the inner man; that Christ Jesus may dwell in our hearts by faith; for us to be rooted and grounded in love. To know the love of Christ, that we might be filled with all the fulness of God. We thank You for hearing and answering our prayers according to Your will, in the name of Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
