Dear Reader,
Books / Pr - Prayer (2002) / Chapter 4—Prayer And Soul Winning
Praying for Souls Will Bring Us Closer to God—As we seek to win others to Christ, bearing the burden of souls in our prayers, our own hearts will throb with the quickening influence of God’s grace; our own affections will glow with more divine fervor; our whole Christian life will be more of a reality, more earnest, more prayerful.—(Christ’s Object Lessons, 354). {Pr 40.3}
When self dies, there will be awakened an intense desire for the salvation of others,—a desire which will lead to persevering efforts to do good. There will be a sowing beside all waters; and earnest supplication, importunate prayers, will enter heaven in behalf of perishing souls.—(Gospel Workers, 470). {Pr 40.4}
The work of winning souls is a self-less act. As we endeavor to win souls for Christ, it is only possible if we take our minds off self. The work does not stop after completing our witnessing. No, prayer for these souls must come next. Earnest, importunate prayers will be required for these perishing souls. By God’s grace, not only will our prayers bring these souls closer to God, but bring us closer to God as well. Our walk with God will strengthen our prayer life and our desire for the salvation of souls. To God be the glory, great things He has done.
Our Father, which art in heaven,
We thank You for the opportunity we still have today of proclaiming the Good News to this perishing world. Our fathers were cruelly punished, even unto death, for their witness of Your name. There are still parts in the world where a Christian is punished, outcast, marginalized, and even slaughtered for believing on You. We pray for these fellow brethren and missionaries who risk life so others will have life. We pray for their protection and well-being. We pray that as we confess Your name before man, You would have Your Holy angels camped round about us to protect us from the inevitable persecution we will face. You have said if we do not confess Your name before man, You will not confess our name to the Father, which is in heaven. We pray that we may call souls publicly to surrender their life to You, that they would be saved. You gave Your life to save us from our sins. We can only die to self-daily, carry our cross and follow where the lamb leads. While we pray for others, we pray that it will bring them closer to You and bring us closer to You as well. We pray for Your Spirit to fills us that we may reflect Your light unto those walking in darkness. We pray for the lost of this world to receive Your light unto everlasting life. We pray that Your children have the desire to win souls, pressed out of measure, even unto death. Grant us Your wisdom and understanding, that we may do what is right, favorable, and well pleasing in Your sight. May we be worthy of having our names written in Your book of life. May we honor and glorify Your name, and let not our will, but let Thy will be done. We thank and praise You, in the name of Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
