Stewardship

CCh - Counsels for the Church (1991) Chapter 48—Counsels on Stewardship

The plan of salvation was laid by the infinite sacrifice of the Son of God. The light of the gospel shining from the cross of Christ rebukes selfishness and encourages liberality and benevolence. It is not to be a lamented fact that there are increasing calls to give. God in His providence is calling His people out from their limited sphere of action to enter upon greater enterprises. Unlimited effort is demanded at this time when moral darkness is covering the world. Worldliness and covetousness are eating out the vitals of God’s people. They should understand that it is His mercy which multiplies the demands for their means. The angel of God places benevolent acts close beside prayer. He said to Cornelius: “Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.” Acts 10:4.519 {CCh 281.6}

God is calling everyone into action. We must not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk. There is a great work to be done which requires liberality and benevolence. We are encouraged to give towards continuing the plan of salvation for which Christ Jesus paid the ultimate price. Your giving is placed close beside your prayers. By your giving, not only will others be blessed but you will be blessed as well. God will bless the portion that remains with you, and remember, God not only adds but he multiplies. If your portion is not going to carry out God’s work, it is going to carry out Satan’s work, covering the world more and more in moral darkness. Instead, let your benevolence light up the world with the truth from heaven and come up for a memorial before God.

Our Father,

We thank You for giving us the privilege to be co laborers with You in Your plan of salvation. We pray that You will continue to bless us with the ability to acquire means to support ourselves, our families, and furthering the work You would have us do. We thank You for not only adding unto us, but multiplying Your blessings upon us. It is our prayer that all would open up their hearts with liberality and benevolence when it comes to sharing and proclaiming the everlasting gospel to the four corners of the world. Let our prayers and our giving come up for a memorial before You, dear God. We are sorry and repent of our sins and pray for the forgiveness of our sins. We thank You and praise You, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
