Stewardship
CS - Counsels on Stewardship (1940) Chapter 3—Why God Employs Men as His Almoners
The Highest Honor, the Greatest Joy
God is the source of life and light and joy to the universe. Like rays of light from the sun, blessings flow out from Him to all the creatures He has made. In His infinite love He has granted men the privilege of becoming partakers of the divine nature, and, in their turn, of diffusing blessings to their fellow men. This is the highest honor, the greatest joy, that it is possible for God to bestow upon men. Those are brought nearest to their Creator who thus become participants in labors of love. He who refuses to become a “laborer together with God,”—the man who for the sake of selfish indulgence ignores the wants of his fellow men, the miser who heaps up his treasures here,—is withholding from himself the richest blessing that God can give him.—The Review and Herald, December 6, 1887. {CS 23.3}
What a wonderful way that Sister White describes how we are brought closer to God, as a labor of love, by diffusing blessings to our fellow men. She calls it the highest honor and greatest joy that God bestows upon men. If we are selfish and ignore the wants of our brothers and sisters, we would miss out on the greatest blessing that God can give. That does not seem to be a wise decision, to withhold from God that which is His in the first place, and denying our privilege to become partakers of the divine nature. The best decision one can make is to allow God to use them for His service, thereby drawing nearer to God in this labor of love. May we all receive this richest blessing from God.
Our Father, which art in heaven,
We thank You for giving us this privilege of being co laborers with You in this labor of love. We have been truly blessed by You in being able to use these blessings to help bless our fellow men. Though everything is rightfully Yours, You entrust it to us as Your stewards to diffuse to those in need. We thank You, that in Your infinite love, for allowing us to be partakers of the divine nature. It is truly an honor to be of service to You. We thank you for all these blessings, in the name of Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen
