Stewardship
CCh - Counsels for the Church (1991) Chapter 48—Counsels on Stewardship- Tithing Is Ordained by God
The great work which Jesus announced that He came to do was entrusted to His followers upon the earth. He has given His people a plan for raising sums sufficient to make the enterprise self-sustaining. God’s plan in the tithing system is beautiful in its simplicity and equality. All may take hold of it in faith and courage, for it is divine in its origin. In it are combined simplicity and utility, and it does not require depth of learning to understand and execute it. All may feel that they can act a part in carrying forward the precious work of salvation. Every man, woman, and youth may become a treasurer for the Lord and may be an agent to meet the demands upon the treasury. Says the apostle: “Let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him.”1 Corinthians 16:2. {CCh 274.4}
The system that God put in place is simple and straight forward. God has given us a simple and equal plan for raising sums sufficient to make it self-sustaining. As it comes from God, it is divine. Every man, woman, and youth can take part in God’s work of salvation. We are all treasurers for the Lord. God will continue to prosper us, if we continue to meet His demands for His treasury. The great work that Jesus came to do was entrusted to us to continue. So, let us take hold of it with faith and courage, and prove ourselves to the Lord.
Our Father, God Almighty,
We thank You for allowing us this opportunity to participate in Your system. As You have instructed us, we will take hold of it with faith and courage, for it is divine. A plan so simple to follow that ALL can act a part in Your work of salvation. We pray, as You have prospered us, that You will bless our tithes and offerings so that these means may prosper to make the enterprise self-sustaining. We thank You for all You have done for us, continue to do for us, and will do for us, and we thank You in advance for all Your blessings. We thank You and praise You, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
