Call to Worship

Job 1: 1

1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name [was] Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

Moses Wrote Book of Job—

The long years amid desert solitudes were not lost. Not only was Moses gaining a preparation for the great work before him, but during this time, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he wrote the book of Genesis and also the book of Job, which would be read with the deepest interest by the people of God until the close of time (The Signs of the Times, February 19, 1880). {3BC 1140.3}

Why do bad things happen to good people? Is God behind the horrible calamities that fall upon us? On the other hand, is there someone else doing these bad things? Yes, there is, not God, but Satan himself. Job feared the Lord and hated evil. The fear of the LORD [is] to hate evil Proverbs 8: 13. Satan wanted to prove to God that once God removed His protection from Job that Job would curse God for his trials. Instead, Job praised God and God blessed Job with twice the blessings from before. God will not remove your trials but He will help you through them. Trust the Lord and He will always be there for you. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Proverbs 3: 7-8.

Dear God,

We thank You for being there for us when we are going through trials. Satan is out there seeking whom he may devour. He is a wily foe. We pray to wear the whole armor of God, so that when Satan comes around, we can give him an “it is written” and send him fleeing from us. We pray You deliver us from the snares of Satan. We pray for Your help to overcome sin, as sin is what separates us from You. We pray to remain under Your wings, to be under the shadow of the Almighty. You are our refuge and fortress; in You do we trust. We thank You and praise You, in the name of Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
