Chapter 1—God Invites Us To Pray
Our Prayers Never Burden or Weary God— We need to have more distinct views of Jesus and a fuller comprehension of the value of eternal realities. The beauty of holiness is to fill the hearts of God’s children; and that this may be accomplished, we should seek for divine disclosures of heavenly things. {Pr 10.3}
Let the soul be drawn out and upward, that God may grant us a breath of the heavenly atmosphere. We may keep so near to God that in every unexpected trial our thoughts will turn to Him as naturally as the flower turns to the sun. {Pr 10.4}
Keep your wants, your joys, your sorrows, your cares, and your fears before God. You cannot burden Him; you cannot weary Him. He who numbers the hairs of your head is not indifferent to the wants of His children. “The Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy” (James 5:11). His heart of love is touched by our sorrows and even by our utterances of them. Take to Him everything that perplexes the mind. Nothing is too great for Him to bear, for He holds up worlds. He rules over all the affairs of the universe. {Pr 11.1}
Nothing that in any way concerns our peace is too small for Him to notice. There is no chapter in our experience too dark for Him to read; there is no perplexity too difficult for Him to unravel.... The relations between God and each soul are as distinct and full as though there were not another soul upon the earth to share His watchcare, not another soul for whom He gave His beloved Son.—(Steps to Christ, 99, 100.) {Pr 11.2}
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son and He would have given Him just for you and just for me. That is how much He loves every one of His children. No one will be left behind if they choose to surrender their life to Christ. He will hear even all our utterances to Him, and when we know not what to pray, the Spirit will pray for us. He welcomes us to bring Him all our wants, joys, sorrows and cares to the foot of His throne. Nothing is too great for Him to bear. He is our omnipotent God who is always there to hear our thoughts. The Lord is our shepherd, follow Him, and there you will find peace.
Our Father, which art in heaven,
We thank You for inviting us to enter into Your presence to commune with You and share our inner thoughts and desires. We seek for heavenly things so we seek Your face daily. We pray that You show us Your glory and the beauty of heaven. We bring before You all our wants, joys, sorrows and cares. You are our almighty God and there is nothing too great for You to bear. We claim all of Your wonderful promises to us and find comfort in the promise that You will never leave us nor forsake us. We pray that You keep us close to Your bosom and safe under Your wings. We thank You for letting us abide in Your shadow where we may find peace, not as the world gives, but only as You can give. We thank You for giving us Your breath of life and for each day we get to commune with You. We pray for Your continual presence in our life and that Your Spirit will abide in us and we abide in You, as the vine and the branch have life together, so may we. We thank You, and are eternally grateful for the sacrifice You made for us so that we may have eternal life with You in Your heavenly kingdom. It is our privilege that You would have given Your life for any one of us. We are sorry that we have hurt You with our sinful ways and we repent of our sins. We pray that by Your mercy, compassion, and grace that You forgive us of all our sins, the known and the unknown, and wash us clean in the blood of Christ. Help us to overcome, as You overcame, that we would sin no more. We lift up our prayers to the Most Holy Place in the heavenly sanctuary where You are seated at the Right Hand of the Father, interceding and praying on our behalf and it is in Your name we pray, Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. Amen.
