Dear Reader,
Books / Pr - Prayer (2002) / Chapter 5—God’s Promises Concerning Prayer
The Gospel Will Make Rapid Progress as a Result of Prayer—God would work mightily for His people today if they would place themselves wholly under His guidance. They need the constant abiding of the Holy Spirit. If there were more prayer in the councils of those bearing responsibilities, more humbling of the heart before God, we should see abundant evidence of divine leadership, and our work would make rapid progress.—( Testimonies for the Church 8:238.) {Pr 50.4}
Prayer Will Bring Power to Overcome—
We must have on the whole armor of God and be ready at any moment for a conflict with the powers of darkness. When temptations and trials rush in upon us, let us go to God and agonize with Him in prayer. He will not turn us away empty, but will give us grace and strength to overcome, and to break the power of the enemy.—(Early Writings, 46.) {Pr 51.1}
Blessings Will Be Proportionate to Our Faith—
Pray in faith. And be sure to bring your lives into harmony with your petitions, that you may receive the blessings for which you pray. Let not your faith weaken, for the blessings received are proportionate to the faith exercised. “According to your faith be it unto you.”“All things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” Matthew 9:29}
If all of God’s children come together under one accord, the Holy Spirit will continually abide in us, and we in the spirit. We receive power and strength from on High via the Spirit of God. There is strength in numbers and together God’s army outnumbers that of Satan. We must have on the whole armor of God to overcome the temptations and trials that assault us from every angle. By staying in prayer, we will receive the power to overcome and facilitate spreading the gospel like wildfire. Pray in faith, and the power of the enemy will be broken.
Our Father, which art in heaven,
We humbly, yet boldly, come to the foot of Your throne in prayer. As the disciples received the outpouring of the Holy Spirit when they came together under one accord in the upper room, we likewise pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon all our brothers and sisters. There are many among us who are going through trials and tribulations. We pray for Your help that they may overcome these trials. Grant us all Your Power and strength from on high that helps us to put on and wear the whole armor of God. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against Satan and his evil spirits. We pray for Your army of heavenly angels that are encamped round about us to help us in the warfare of good versus evil. We thank You for Your strong arm that supports us in these times. We pray that whatsoever we ask in prayer, we shall receive. We pray that our prayers bring us more power from heaven. It is our prayer for Your church to continually commune with You for the everlasting gospel to go out quickly and hasten Your second advent. To that is what we joyfully look forward. To see You face to face and to spend all of eternity in Your presence. We place ourselves wholly in Your hands. From the youngest, to the oldest, even the leadership of the church, we surrender our life to You and pray that we are able to faithfully serve You as You will. May we all be in harmony with Your Word and obey Your commandments. Keep our faith strong and let us not weaken under the constant assault of the enemy. We pray that You anoint our heads with oil, and may our cup runneth over. Praise be to You and glory in Your name. We thank and praise You, in the name of Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
