Chapter 2—Our Need Of Prayer
Prayer to Be First Activity of the Day—Consecrate yourself to God in the morning; make this your very first work. Let your prayer be, “Take me, O Lord, as wholly Thine. I lay all my plans at Thy feet. Use me today in Thy service. Abide with me, and let all my work be wrought in Thee.” This is a daily matter. Each morning consecrate yourself to God for that day. Surrender all your plans to Him, to be carried out or given up as His providence shall indicate. Thus day by day you may be giving your life into the hands of God, and thus your life will be molded more and more after the life of Christ.—(Steps to Christ, 70.) {Pr 23.1}
The very first out-breathing of the soul in the morning should be for the presence of Jesus. “Without Me,” He says, “ye can do nothing.” It is Jesus that we need; His light, His life, His spirit, must be ours continually. We need Him every hour. And we should pray in the morning that as the sun illuminates the landscape, and fills the world with light, so the Sun of Righteousness may shine into the chambers of mind and heart, and make us all light in the Lord. We cannot do without His presence one moment. The enemy knows when we undertake to do without our Lord, and he is there, ready to fill our minds with his evil suggestions that we may fall from our steadfastness; but it is the desire of the Lord that from moment to moment we should abide in Him, and thus be complete in Him.—(My Life Today, 15.) {Pr 23.2}
Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus. From our first waking moment, it is by Christ’s grace we are able to do anything. Through Him, we are more than just conquerors. We can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us. He promises that if we yoke up to Him, our burdens will be light as His yoke is easy and His burdens are light. To have Jesus at our side is like having an army of angels holding us up. Surrender your whole being to our great Lord and be complete in Him. Make prayer the first activity of the day that you may be a light unto this dark world.
Our Lord,
We come into Your presence and give You thanks for giving us Your breath of life. For every day You give us and shine Your light upon us. For giving us the privilege of prayer to commune with You as our first activity of the day. We pray that we may Yoke up to You as Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. We pray that we may learn of You; for You are meek and lowly in heart, so that we may find rest unto our souls. We surrender our life to You and put all our trust in You. We pray that You keep us in Your right hand of power, that none may pluck us out of Your hand. We pray for a hedge of Your heavenly angels to be round about us to keep us safe and out of harm’s way from Satanic forces. As we start out our day, we give up all of our plans to You and pray that Your plan for our day allows us to give glory and honor to Your name. We pray that You use us in Your service to be a light and a blessing to those around us. We pray that You continue to shape us and mold us into the Christian we ought to be, created in Your image. We thank You for giving us Your strength, allowing us to do all things through You, making us more than just conquerors. We pray that we may continually abide in You, and You abide in us, that we may be complete in You. We pray that You be the light in our souls for us to reflect unto others living in darkness. We consecrate this day and every day to You, as we cannot do without Your presence. Praise be to You, and glory be to Your name. We thank You for hearing and answering our prayers, in the name of Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
