Chapter 2—Our Need Of Prayer

Prayer Needed in the Home—Affection cannot be lasting, even in the home circle, unless there is a conformity of the will and disposition to the will of God. All the faculties and passions are to be brought into harmony with the attributes of Jesus Christ. If the father and mother in the love and fear of God unite their interests to have authority in the home, they will see the necessity of much prayer, much sober reflection. And as they seek God, their eyes will be opened to see heavenly messengers present to protect them in answer to the prayer of faith. They will overcome the weaknesses of their character and go on unto perfection.—(The Adventist Home, 315, 316.) {Pr 30.3}

Prayer Needed to Maintain Connection With God—Neglect the exercise of prayer, or engage in prayer spasmodically, now and then, as it is deemed convenient, and you lose your connection with God. The Christian life becomes dry, and the spiritual faculties have no vitality. The religious experience lacks health and vigor.—(The Signs of the Times, July 31, 1893.) {Pr 31.1}

Prayer can be described as an exercise in faith. Just as the body becomes stronger with physical exercise, so will the spiritual being strengthen with consistent prayer. Your connection with God will grow healthy and strong. If practiced in the home, the family will be in harmony with each other and with God. Just as the disciples came together under one accord in the upper room, and the Holy Spirit filled each of them, so will the Spirit fill your family unit. When you seek God daily, He will hear and answer your prayers of faith. Do not neglect your prayer life, lest you lose your connection with God.

Our kind and gracious heavenly Father,

We come to You in faith and pray that we may remain continually connected to You. We need to be connected to You, as we cannot do anything by our own strength. You are the source of our strength, the Power from on High that lifts us up when we stumble or fall. We are sinful, mortal beings that are eternally grateful for the sacrifice You made on our behalf. We pray that You help us overcome the evils and temptations of this world, as You also overcame, that we would sin no more. We pray that we may yoke up to You, as Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. We pray for all the families that receive this prayer for the outpouring of Your Holy Spirit on each family member. Fill us with Your Spirit and Your Light. May we receive Your character to overcome the weaknesses of our character and go on unto perfection. May we reflect Your light unto those who are living in darkness. We pray that they may see the need to remain in communion with You so they do not lose their connection to You. May they exercise their prayer life so their connection with You can grow strong and healthy. We pray that You help us be ready for that great day of Your second coming. May no one be found wanting, but standing, no one be found sleeping, but wide-awake. May they all be under one accord with each other and in total harmony with our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. May we be ready with our lamps trimmed and burning, to see You coming in the clouds to take Your saints home to Your heavenly kingdom. What a day of rejoicing that will be. Bless us and keep us, save us, heal us, and forgive us of our sins, we pray, in the name of Christ Jesus. Amen.
