Dear Reader.
Books / Pr - Prayer (2002) / Chapter 6—The Prayer Of Faith
Prayer Moves God to Action—By your fervent prayers of faith you can move the arm that moves the world. You can teach your children to pray effectually as they kneel by your side. Let your prayers arise to the throne of God, “Spare thy people, O Lord, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?” God is at work. He doeth wonders, and although He is high and lifted up, prayer can reach His throne. He that is turning and overturning, He that can do marvelous things, will regard the contrite prayer of faith from the humblest of His children.—(The Review and Herald, April 23, 1889.) {Pr 61.1}
God Cannot Answer Prayers That Are Not Asked—Prayer and faith will do what no power on earth can accomplish. We are seldom, in all respects, placed in the same position twice. We continually have new scenes and new trials to pass through, where past experience cannot be a sufficient guide. We must have the continual light that comes from God. Christ is ever sending messages to those who listen for His voice. {Pr 61.2}
It is a part of God’s plan to grant us, in answer to the prayer of faith, that which He would not bestow did we not thus ask.—(My Life Today, 15.) {Pr 61.3}
Ask and it shall be given, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you. These are God’s promises, and His promises are sure. Whatsoever ye ask in His name that shall be given unto you. We have to ask in faith by fervent prayer. Send your prayers up to the throne of grace as sweet incense. God is always ready to hear and answer prayers. If ye ask not, you have not. There is power in prayer, but if you do not exercise this power, you will not accomplish anything by your own strength. God will do marvelous things in answering the contrite prayer of faith.
Our Father, which art in heaven,
We come to the foot of Your throne of grace in praise, thanksgiving, and prayer. We come humbly with contrite spirits to seek Your face. We have come before You many times before, but often times we do not ask for what we truly seek. We pray dear Lord, to receive a double portion of Your Holy Spirit to lead us, guide us, and keep us on a safe path. We pray for Your Power from on High. We pray that You grant us Your strength and courage, wisdom and understanding, and discernment to do what is right, favorable, and well pleasing in Your sight. We pray that everything we say and do, and all our hands touch, will honor and glorify Your name. We surrender our lives’ to You to work and to do of Your good pleasure. Let not our will, but let Thy will be done. We know that we are sinners and humbly repent of our sins. We pray for Your forgiveness for all our sins and that we may be worthy of having our names written in Your book of life. Save our families and us dear Lord. Help us to be ready and prepared for Your Great Day to come, that we may all see You in the clouds to take us home. We pray to be found ready, and not wanting, with our lamps trimmed and burning. We pray to be wide-awake and not sleeping. We pray to teach the children well and not have the heathen rule over them. We thank You for doing marvelous things for all Your children. We pray for Your continual light from heaven to shine upon us that we may reflect Your light unto those who are walking in darkness. We pray to hear Your voice and to understand Your message for us. We pray these things in the name of Christ Jesus. Amen.
