Proverbs 18: 22
18:22 [Whoso] findeth a wife findeth a good [thing], and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
Let those who are contemplating marriage weigh every sentiment and watch every development of character in the one with whom they think to unite their life destiny. Let every step toward a marriage alliance be characterized by modesty, simplicity, sincerity, and an earnest purpose to please and honor God. Marriage affects the afterlife both in this world and in the world to come. A sincere Christian will make no plans that God cannot approve.—The Ministry of Healing, 359 (1905). { 1MCP 152.3 }
God created Adam and then Eve. Both were formed by God in His image. The two were joined together and were the first married union of husband and wife. The bonding in marriage had a sacred purpose then, back at the beginning of creation, as it does today. It is with great care with which a sincere Christian is to consider whom they will unite with in marriage. In choosing, the ultimate factor in this decision is if it will please God. When a man finds a wife, it is a good thing, and will obtain favor from the Lord. Marriage here on this earth, in this life, will prepare us for the ultimate wedding feast in heaven, in the afterlife, in the world to come.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come to the foot of Your throne in thanksgiving, prayer, and praise. We thank You for your breath of life. We thank You for the marriage institution You established for us in the beginning of creation. We thank You for this blessing, the joining in marriage between a man and a woman. We pray that our marriages are well pleasing in Your sight, and what You have joined together, let not man put asunder. May it help us to prepare for the marriage between You and all the sincere Christians of this world and into the world to come. Help us remain faithful to each other and with You. Bless us, in the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
