Jeremiah 17: 5
17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed [be] the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
We are prone to look to our fellow-men for sympathy and uplifting, instead of looking to Jesus. In His mercy and faithfulness, God often permits those in whom we place confidence to fail us, in order that we may learn the folly of trusting in man, and making flesh our arm. Let us trust fully, humbly, unselfishly, in God. He knows the sorrows that we feel to the depths of our being, but which we cannot express. When all things seem dark and unexplainable, remember the words of Christ, “What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.” [John 13:7.] {GW 476.6}
Too often, when we run into difficulties, we turn to “friends” for help or advice. We fail to remember that the best friend we have is Christ Jesus. Christ is always there for us, working behind the scenes. Our great intercessor interceding on our behalf. Instead of going to the phone to call friends, we need to go to the Throne and call on Jesus. Jesus hears our cries and will help in time of need. We serve a mighty God and it is man’s foolishness to trust in none other. Man will fail us, but Jesus will never leave us not forsake us. That is His promise and His promises are sure.
Our most kind and gracious Father,
We thank You for giving us the privilege of being able to come to the foot of Your throne in our time of need. You have promised us that You would never leave us nor forsake us. We thank You for always being there for us, interceding on our behalf. We cannot do anything by our own strength, and it is folly to look to man for our uplifting, so we look to You dear Lord to strengthen us with Your power from on High. We surrender all to You and pray for Your continual presence in our life. We are sorry and repent of our sins and ask for Your forgiveness. We thank You for hearing and answering our prayers. We pray in the name of Christ Jesus, Amen.
