Psalm 61: 1,2
61:1 To the chief Musician upon Neginah, [A Psalm] of David. Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock [that] is higher than I.
Patriarchs and Prophets 413
The same beautiful and expressive figures are carried throughout the Bible. Centuries before the advent of Christ, Moses pointed to Him as the rock of Israel’s salvation ( Deuteronomy 32:15); the psalmist sang of Him as “my Redeemer,” “the rock of my strength,” “the rock that is higher than I,” “a rock of habitation,” “rock of my heart,” “rock of my refuge.” In David’s song His grace is pictured also as the cool, “still waters,” amid green pastures, beside which the heavenly Shepherd leads His flock. Again, “Thou shalt make them,” he says, “drink of the river of Thy pleasures. For with Thee is the fountain of life.” Psalm 19:14; 62:7; Psalm 61:2; 71:3 (margin); 73:26 (margin); 94:22; 23:2; 36:8, 9. {PP 413}
Jesus is the great cornerstone, the rock, the foundation of our faith. He is the rock of our salvation. He was, and is, and will be for ever and ever. The alpha and the omega. The beginning and the end. He is from everlasting to everlasting. He sits at the right Hand of our Father, interceding on our behalf. What comfort that He gives us knowing that we can come to Him just as we are, and if we repent of our sins, He will forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Praise God for His grace to help in time of need.
Our Father, which art in Heaven,
We thank thee for giving us Your breath of life. For being with us, watching over us, protecting us, and keeping us safe. For being our redeemer, our rock of strength. We come to You as sinners, in our filthy rags. We are sorry, and humbly repent of our sins. We pray that in Your compassion and mercy, that You will forgive us of our sins and that You clothe us in Your robe of righteousness. May we hear from You on high and understand clearly what You are saying. Let Your message live with us that we may reflect Your light and character unto this dark world. Grant us Your Power that we may continue the work of salvation that You have appointed for us to do. We thank You for hearing and answering our prayers, according to Your will. In the name of Jesus Christ we thank You and praise You. Amen.
