1 John 1:9-10
1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
We should not try to lessen our guilt by excusing sin. We must accept God’s estimate of sin, and that is heavy indeed. Calvary alone can reveal the terrible enormity of sin. If we had to bear our own guilt, it would crush us. But the sinless One has taken our place; though undeserving, He has borne our iniquity. “If we confess our sins,” God “is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9. Glorious truth!—just to His own law, and yet the Justifier of all that believe in Jesus. “Who is a God like unto Thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He retaineth not His anger forever, because He delighteth in mercy.” Micah 7:18. {Pr 299.1}
Sin is the transgression of the law, and the wages of sin is death. But through Christ Jesus, who bears our guilt and has taken our place, we can be forgiven of our sins and cleansed from all unrighteousness. He is faithful and just. He is Glorious truth, just to His own law. But we not only must confess our sins, we have to repent of our sins. If we don’t, there may come a point where we grieve the Holy Spirit and make Him a liar. That is not where we want to be. So, today, confess and repent of your sins that the Word of God will live in you, and whereby you receive the righteousness of God.
Dear God,
We thank You for giving us yet another opportunity to come before You in thanksgiving and prayer. We are so sorry, and humbly repent of all of our sins. We ask, that in Your goodness, compassion, and mercy, that You forgive us of all our sins, the known and the unknown. That we may be washed in the blood of Christ and cleansed from all unrighteousness. May You grant us Your power to overcome all our sins, that we may sin no more. We thank You for being so good to us and we thank You in advance for all the blessings You have in store for us. We pray that You will blot out all our sins and that we are worthy of having our names written in Your book of life. We thank You for delighting in mercy and for giving us the victory over sin. These things we ask and pray, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
