CS - Counsels on Stewardship (1940) Chapter 2—Our Bountiful Benefactor
"Surely goodness and mercy attend us at every step. Not till we wish the infinite Father to cease bestowing His gifts on us, should we impatiently exclaim, Is there no end of giving? Not only should we faithfully render to God our tithes, which He claims as His own, but we should bring a tribute to His treasury as an offering of gratitude. Let us with joyful hearts bring to our Creator the first fruits of all His bounties,—our choicest possessions, our best and holiest service."—The Review and Herald, February 9, 1886. {CS 18.2}
In Psalm 23, David ends with the final verse stating “goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” As the Lord continually bestows His gifts upon us, we are to share our blessings with the needy that are all around us. Do this, and you too will have goodness and mercy all the days of your life. While you are traveling about, keep extra water and non- perishable food in your car or in your backpack. You may just run into someone along the way that is in need and will gladly accept your gift. As you bless others, you will be blessed. Sow gospel seeds daily, for the harvest is plenty but the workers are few. God is asking you to be a co-laborer with Him, for His coming is even at the door.
Our Father,
We thank You for giving us yet another opportunity to be a co-laborer with You in the work of salvation. There are many here among us that are in need, and it is our tribute to You to help those out of our gratitude for what You have done for us. We thank You for providing for all our needs in abundance and Your shower of continual blessings. We pray that You will help us in helping others, that they may also be partakers of Your goodness and mercy. We are only stewards of all that belongs to You. We pray that You will place us at the right place at the right time to help that person in need of Your gospel message. These things we ask and pray, we thank You and praise You, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
