Chapter 3—Why God Employs Men as His Almoners
God is not dependent upon men for the advancement of His cause. He might have made angels the ambassadors of His truth. He might have made known His will, as He proclaimed the law from Sinai with His own voice. But in order to cultivate a spirit of benevolence in us, He has chosen to employ men to do this work. {CS 20.1}
Every act of self-sacrifice for the good of others will strengthen the spirit of beneficence in the giver’s heart, allying him more closely to the Redeemer of the world, who “was rich, yet for our sakes became poor, that we through His poverty might be rich.” And it is only as we fulfill the divine purpose in our creation that life can be a blessing to us. All the good gifts of God to man will prove only a curse, unless he employs them to bless his fellow men, and for the advancement of God’s cause in the earth.—The Review and Herald, December 7, 1886. {CS 20.2}
God is almighty and all powerful, so He certainly doesn’t need us to do anything for Him. Yet, He gives us the opportunity to be able to demonstrate the spirit of benevolence that He has blessed us with. As we exercise this gift, it grows stronger and gets set deeper in our hearts, allying us closer to our redeemer. Christ Jesus is the epitome of what self-sacrifice is, He is our great exemplar. I want to be like Jesus and this is our divine purpose in our creation. Walk in the footsteps of Jesus and He will lead You in the advancement of God’s cause in this life on earth.
Dear God, our Father almighty,
Stewardshipou for giving us this honor of being Your almoners here on earth. You could do this work Yourself, but instead have given us the opportunity to do it with You. We thank You for blessing us with the means that allow us to exercise the spirit of benevolence You have blessed us with. As we carry out this work, we grow stronger and draw closer to You, and we thank You for this blessing. We pray that You continue to bless us, and keep us faithful in our giving that we may bless our brothers and sisters in need and for the advancement of Your cause. We thank You for this divine purpose in our life. We thank you for hearing and answering our prayers, in the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
