Stewardship

CS - Counsels on Stewardship (1940) Chapter 1—Coworkers With God

The Blessings of Stewardship

Every good thing of earth was placed here by the bountiful hand of God as an expression of His love to man. The poor are His, and the cause of religion is His. The gold and the silver are the Lord’s; and He could rain them from heaven if He chose. But instead of this He has made man His steward, entrusting him with means, not to be hoarded, but to be used in benefiting others. He thus makes man the medium through which to distribute His blessings on earth. God planned the system of beneficence, in order that man might become like his Creator, benevolent and unselfish in character, and finally be a partaker with Christ of the eternal, glorious reward. {CS 15.2}

Only God can give us an opportunity such as He gives. To be able to work with God to benefit others. He has made us stewards of all that is His. God loves us so much that He gave us His system of beneficence to be used in unselfish benevolence towards our brothers and sisters. We are His vessels for distributing His means to the needy, the hungry, the sick, the poor, the widows and orphans. What a loving Creator we serve. Do this, and be a partaker with Christ and receive the eternal glorious reward. Seize this opportunity today for a glorious tomorrow.

Dear kind and gracious Father,

We thank You for this privilege and opportunity to be able to serve You and work with You in carrying out the plan of salvation. For giving us Your system of beneficence to benefit those that are in need and less fortunate than we. For demonstrating Your character to us, Your unselfish love for mankind. For giving us this honor of being a partaker with Christ to reap Your eternal reward. We pray that You keep us faithful in our benevolence and stewardship of the means You entrust to us. We are sorry and repent of our sins and ask for your mercy and forgiveness. We thank You for hearing and answering our prayers. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
